The campus focuses on Automotive Research in a partnership between Clemson and BMW. The Spartanburg Marriott was opened in 2003 to great fan fare in the Upstate. The master development plan included a 9 hole golf course and a putting green in the shape of the State of South Carolina were ultimately left off; however, the building is well landscaped with a thoughtful variety of plants to compliment the architecture and region.
